This turned out to be quite an interesting drama period not only did we have closet lesbians and closet bisexuals we were also privy to cross dressing. The story follows the life and tribulations of Nancy Astley also known as Nan King who lives in Whitstable, when we first come across her she is a quiet family girl, who's older sister is her best friend and her family are her number one priority. This all drastically changes when Nan and her family go to a seasonal performer at the local theatre.
Nan soon becomes obsessed with Kitty Butler and her androgynous skit, going to the theatre every night just to see Kitty Butler's skit and then returning home. Her family make playful/harmful jokes about it initially but her sister seems to notice that there might be more to her sister wanting to see the skit all the time. It all changes one night when Kitty is soon exposed to Nan being her number one fan and Kitty gives her a rose at the end of her skit. The two soon become inseparable as Kitty asks Nan to come help Kitty dress before each show. Kitty soon starts to refer to Nan as a Mermaid as Nan's family owns a Seaside Restaurant and their delicacy is Oyster's.

Kitty Butler: "Like a mermaid."
With the popularity of the skit increasing Kitty is soon hired to perform in a larger theatre in London, she asks Nan to come along with her. Nan jumps at the chance and her family do not stand in her way as they can see how much she wants to go.

In the end it comes down to going back to what she knows as in Kitty or giving her new found love with Florence a chance. Thankfully she chooses Florence and we see them walking off into the metaphorical sunset however in reality they are walking toward a certain Seaside Restaurant.
